What are Green Tags ?
Green tags – also known as "renewable energy certificates" or "tradable energy certificates" – are sold by operators of wind farms and other clean energy generators, based upon how much energy they produce. By providing a financial incentive to produce green power, green tags encourage the development of energy technology that helps prevent global warming.
By purchasing green tags to offset the carbon dioxide produced when you drive a car or use other fossil fuels, you can support the growth of clean energy – and halt global climate change.
While buying a green tag doesn't actually eliminate the CO2 produced by your car or other fossil fuel use, it's a way to responsibly reduce your environmental impact by paying for clean energy produced elsewhere.
Buying green tags to match your energy usage is rather like buying organic strawberries. You may not be able to see a difference, but you know they are healthier for you, for your children and for the planet – and you are willing to pay a little extra for this value.
The green tags you purchase through this Cool It! site are Green-e® Certified tags, sourced from California and national wind farms through 3Degrees Inc. The Green-e Program certifies that the green tags you purchase meet the minimum environmental and consumer protection standards established by the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions. For more information on Green-e®, go to www.green-e.org.
Fortunately, the less fossil fuel you use, the less CO2 you produce and the less you need to pay for green tags to offset your CO2 emissions – and become carbon neutral!
